Photowalk 46 of 52 - Browns Branch County Park

Photowalk 46 of 52 - Browns Branch County Park

Photowalk 46 of 52 - Browns Branch County Park - POTW
I really didn't have the energy to go on this photowalk but I decided I really needed to go. I haven't had as much energy of late for photography, not saying that I don't enjoy it anymore but I think I needed something of a break.  Not just from photography but a lot of things.  Work has been rather hectic lately and life in general has been busy.  I know it's no excuse but it's the truth.  Sometimes we all just need a break.  I'm hoping at this point to be able to get all of my photowalks in before the end of the year but we'll see how that goes.  A bit of lazyness and the hectic holidays may make me late.

Photowalk 46 of 52 (Fall at Mirror Lake)

Photowalk 46 of 52 (Fall at Mirror Lake)

Mother/Daughter Photoshoot

This wasn't meant to be a walk, but it turned out pretty good so I decided it should be counted as a walk.

I did these as a favor for my daughter, and I think they turned out nice.

Check out more of the shots at my flickr.

Photowalk 45 of 52 - White Clay Creek

First time going up here, but I've been trying to figure out when I could get up here for months now. It's a bit of a drive, at least for me at just under an hour and a half. So, I finally made it up there and met up with a flickr contact (M.Reder) that lives nearby.

So I went to Dover for this walk knowing that I wanted to get some shots of the historic buildings and stuff here.

I got a big surprise though...

Photowalk 43 of 52 - Killens Pond (Some long exposures)

I know I know... another photowalk at Killens Pond. You may not be saying it but I am. I really enjoy Killens Pond, it's close but there is a lot to be explored there. I'm trying to catch up on photowalks and posting. When I was trying to decide on whether I wanted to try a full year photogrpahy project that I couldn't pull off a 365-project.

Photowalk 42 of 52 - Maryland Renaissance Festival

Photowalk 42 of 52 - Maryland Renaissance Festival

I've never been to one of these before. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect when I got there. I really enjoyed myself though, and I think I've got my daughter hooked, she can't wait till next year!

Before I start, I want to mention that I know I'm currently one walk behind, that's okay I expect to catch up soon.

Pros: Comfortable, Adjustable, Well Padded

Cons: Difficult to Attach

Best Uses: Long shoot, Comfort, Photowalk

Describe Yourself: Photo Enthusiast

I really like this over the original strap. I like the extra pocket it's big enough for me to carry extra cards or an extra battery. I don't like that sometimes it gets twisted a bit but I'm getting used to grabbing it so it won't twist as much. Also, I don't like the anchor point. Seldom do I use a tripod so that's not a big deal but I have a battery grip, and it makes it a little tough to hold the camera in portrait orientation with the big hook in the way. It's still possible but I wonder if it could be better.

Photowalk 41 of 52 (CBBT)

Photowalk 41 of 52 (CBBT), originally uploaded by dm|ze.
This was a quick little walk while we were stretching our legs from our trip. We normally try to stop here on the bridge, if for nothing else, to stretch our legs and use the facilities. I always enjoy walking around out here, but I've also been here at 3 am and it felt creepy!

Photowalk 40 of 52 - Senior Portraits at Killen's Pond - POTW

Photowalk 40 of 52 - Senior Portraits at Killen's Pond

So I was doing some senior portraits for a friend, I figured it would be a fun experience. I don't generally like to shoot people but I've been enjoying it more lately. I've got to say, I think I did a pretty good job, but I also see plenty of room for improvement. Some might say well how does this qualify as a photowalk?

Photowalk 38 of 52 - Lavender Fields - POTW

Photowalk 38 of 52 - Lavender Fields
For this walk I planned to go to Lavender Fields in Milton. I saw this vendor at the Lewes Photowalk back in July and I've been meaning to go and check it out.
The lavender was a bit bland looking but I think I came away with some great shots. I will try to go back here during prime lavender season.

POTW - Photowalk 37 of 52 - Killen's Pond - Manual / Flash and Umbrella

Photowalk 37 of 52 - Killen's Pond - Manual / Flash and Umbrella

For this walk I wasn't exactly sure what to do. It was drizzling rain and on Sunday so I needed to do something. The rest of the week had been busy so this was the only time I had to do my photowalk. I decided to play with my flash and my new flash stand and umbrella. I took two of my kids to the park with me and we found a nice little place to take some shots without the rain interfering.

Photowalk 36 of 52 - Silver Lake - POTW

So for this photowalk I decided to go to Silver Lake. I was originally going to go to the beach and get some shots but it being Labor day weekend I decided I didn't want to deal with the masses of people and traffic.

I got this for the times where you can't bounce your flash. It is a great addon to my flash, and makes my candid shots and party shots a lot better. I wish there was a better explaination for the various uses and why to put it certain ways.

Photowalk 34 of 52 - Backyard walk - POTW

I didn't have a real plan for this walk and I started walking around in some of my families backyards (they live close to each other). I think I got some good shots, one of which I've been hoping for is the butterfly with the blue yellow and black.

Photowalk 28 of 52 - Backyard

I actually started this photowalk on a bike.  I road around Harrington with some friends.  The problem with that is sometimes it's hard to go at your own pace when you're riding with others and I didn't see anything of much interest to shoot.

Photowalk 22 of 52 (Killen's Pond - Black and White)

So after frreezing my butt off at the Peace, Love and Horseshoe crab event I decided to go for a nice peaceful photowalk. It was great weather and there was enough sunlight for a nice walk. On my way over to Killen's Pond I decided I needed to make this different from the other Killen's pond walks. So on my way over I decided to shot in black and white.

Photowalk 21 of 52 (Trap Pond State Park)

Half way to the end. This week the family went south to Trap Pond. I had never been here before but was looking forward to going. I took the bike route around the pond while the family played on the playground. We went paddle boating for a bit. It was a great day to be out with the family.

Photowalk 15 of 52 - Earth Day at Killen's Pond???

POTW - Photowalk 15 of 52 - Taking a rest...

I see a pattern in my photowalks, no matter how hard I try I can't seem to just do a walk without some issue coming up.  This time I was planning on going to the earth day celebration at Killen's Pond.  We did, and it was cold and windy.  I didn't feel like carrying around my DSLR so I took my Canon Powershot A620.  I like this camera because it can fit in my pocket.  Also, like my DSLR it has the flip out lcd screen.  When I went to look at my shots at the end of it none were on there!!!

Photowalk 11.1 and 11.2

So, I've been a bit behind on posting my POTW.  But I'd much rather be out their getting shots than worrying about whether I've gotten my post done.

The weather is really starting to get much better here and I'm trying to get out an enjoy it.  On this day I ended up taking two photowalks instead of one.

Photowalk 10 of 52 - Rehoboth Beach, DE

POTW - Photowalk 10 of 52

So we were down at the beach for the polar bear plunge (plugede.org) We had a great time as usual and enjoy the weather even though it wasn't great. We generally go down to the beach on the night before the plunge and stay the night at a hotel. We hang out for a good chunk of the weekend so my photowalk for the week consists of shots taken anywhere in that time frame.

POTW - Bombay Hook, originally uploaded by dm|ze.
I had a chance to do two walks in one week, so I took it. It was pretty hard for me to get up early on both of my days off over the weekend but it was worth it. I have never been to Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge until now. It was pretty cool, I will definitely be returning.

Photowalk 8 of 52 - Historic New Castle - POTW

For my eight photowalk I was going to be in Northern Delaware. So, I figured while I'm up there lets take advantage of a change of scenery. I was up in the area taking some shots for a friend. They so happened to be of his re-modeled bathroom and how bad of a job the company did. While I'm on the floor taking shots of the tile work I hear a camera shutter???

Photowalk 6 of 52- POTW

Photowalk 6 of 52- POTW, originally uploaded by dm|ze.
Better a day late than never... I tried to set a limit of Wednesday to post my photowalk shots. I knew at some point that rule would be broken but I do try to post by Wednesday. Oh well, I'm just glad I have shots for this week. And guess what, it's more snow!!!

Thursday, February 11, 2010

POTW - Photowalk 5 of 52 (Blizzard of Feb 2010)

So wow, we got a lot of snow this week! As winter continues to press on the weather changes lives. This week was supposed to be our polar bear plunge. We ended up getting snowed out. Now please keep in mind that this is only the second time in 16 years this has happened. I'm not complaining, it's been pretty bitterly cold out here lately. But that did put a damper on my photowalk for the week. I was planning on going for a photowalk the morning of the polar bear plunge and getting some good beach shots. But I guess that'll now happen around March 14th. So in my area we got right around 2 feet of snow, plus tons of wind so we were actually in a blizzard. Once I got dug out I decided I would do a photowalk just checking out the surrounding areas. It was very cold but my daughter decided to go with me. She ended up not taking a single picture because she was trying to keep her hands warm in her gloves. I had a couple of shots in mind, but I really wanted to just get out and see how the area was effected. This was my favorite shot of the walk and the one that I really had pressing in my mind. There was one thing that is missing from my ideal shot, light trails. I really wanted to have some car light trails on the highway here but I forgot my tripod at home. I will end up getting the shot I want, I'm just not sure if it will have all the snow in it. We just got another 12 or so inches today so I will be digging out again.
I recently jumped on google wave so if you want an invite or to contact me check me out at dan.mize@googlewave.com

You have to love how well people cleared the tops of their vehicles to drive around!

Photowalk 4 of 52 - Mt. Olive Cemetery

Photowalk 4 of 52 - POTW

Overall I was disappointed with this walk. It was freezing cold, fresh snow, and I just didn't feel motivated. Later that night I got sick, I think I could already feel it when it was time to do my walk. I've wanted to shoot a cemetery for some time now and I thought the snow would look good with it.

POTW - Park art in Washington DC

POTW - Park art 2, originally uploaded by dm|ze.
This weeks photowalk was at the National Mall at Washington DC. I went there with my family and we had a great time. I didn't bring my DSLR for a few reasons, but I took two of my other cameras. The trip was planned for MLK Day, not really thinking how busy it may be over there.

POTW - PHOTOWALK 1 of 52, originally uploaded by dm|ze.
So this is the first photowalk I took for my 52 photowalks. I ended up walking through the woods near my mother-in-laws for about an hour with my daughter to see what we could find.
